How to Make Your Own Water Filter
A water filter can be incredibly useful because it helps to take the contaminants out of your drinking water before you or anyone in your family drinks it. Especially in the world of today, where environmental issues are of such great concern and in particular involving the water supplies, using a water filter has really never been more important than it is now.
You can either go out and purchase a water filter or learn how to make your own water filter. You can make your own water filter quite simply, there are a just a few steps involved.
The Process
If you want to make your own water filter the first thing you want to do is cut the desired length of PVC pipe, which would be 2 1/2 inches or near to that. Drill a hole in the center of the end cap, using a power drill will be the best idea here. Make sure that you drill a hole that is going to be of a suitable size to match the vinyl hose diameter for insertion.
Now you want to take the end cap and attack it to one end of the PVC pipe, then attach a desired length of the vinyl hose to the drilled hole in the end cap. Roll up a piece of filter material and place it inside the PVC pipe. You want to add the carbon here, and then simply pour water through the open end up the PVC filter and direct the water that has been treated and which is coming out of the vinyl hose to your tank or storage container.
This is the quickest and easiest way to make your own water filter but of course there are more expansive designs as well. Remember when you go to make your own water filter that silicone sealant should be used to seal the vinyl hose and end cap connection and that you still have to change or clean the filter when necessary.
Water purification is a very important subject these days and it is important that you take it seriously and take the proper steps in order to protect yourself and your family from the harsh and often dangerous contaminants that are so often found in the drinking water of today.
If you are not sure whether or not you even need a water filter in your home you can always take a sample of your tap water and bring it to a laboratory for testing and they will be able to inform you as to whether or not your water is safe to drink.
