A good ergonomic chair design is one that works for you. In other words, it should conform to your body and the way you intend on using the chair.

Whenever you are looking for good ergonomic chair design, there are some things that you should consider:

Comfort

The chair should be comfortable to sit in for the way that you work throughout the day. Its shape should fit you and allow your legs to move freely while allowing for at least a one inch space on both sides for your hips and thighs and one inch space between the edge of the seat and the back of your knees. The cushioning should also be comfortable and made out of material that can breathe easily.

Adjustable

A good ergonomic chair design will also allow you to easily adjust the chair’s height and recline the chair while seated. Of course, these controls should also be easy to understand and use. They should also be able to be adjusted for your comfort. For instance the seat’s height should be adequate and the position of the lumbar support should be comfortable.

Stable

This chair needs to be stable whenever you are sitting on it and yet move and swivel easily. A good ergonomic chair design should also have comfortable armrests. They should be broad, contoured, adequately cushioned and adjustable. The arms should also be able to be moved out of the way if necessary.

Backrest

The backrest should be high enough to provide support to your thoracic area, which is the middle part of your back. This backrest should be able to be brought forward and locked at any angle. A really good ergonomic chair design will have automatic height adjustment instead of manual so that you can adjust the backrest will fit snugly in your lower back as well. If you purchase a backrest that is free floating, then it should also be able to be locked in an open angle as well.

Seat Cushion

The seat’s cushion should allow adequate support for your thighs. It should also reduce pressure on your thighs and you should also be able to increase the depth of the seat to allow for additional support. Make sure that you can test drive the chair in the showroom and that you receive instructions on how to use this chair properly. This should include instruction on how each part of your chair works and what to do if something malfunctions.
